So, Taren introduced me to the wonder that is Heathers.
And now I'm taking recs. Taren's been pretty good about giving me a list the size of Jupiter of movies to watch - seriously, I don't think I've seen half as many movies in my meager almost-sixteen years of life. As it is, I am not a movie-goer.
But I'd love to know the oldies you guys love! I really ought to become more cultured. The only thing I seem to know spectucularly well (and could probably recite in my sleep) is publisher info: publicist email addresses, who's published by whom, yaddayadda. And honestly, no one but me (and Taren, occasionally) cares, so that doesn't do me much good.
In other news, life has been fabbity fab fab recently. Alas, this translates into no blogging material. Why do I need to be bored out of my mind to have any sort of posting inspiration? It boggles my mind. Anyhow, you?

I've just been yapping about my former Desperately Seeking Susan obsession that inspired a rash of black and gold clothing and jewellery over at We Love YA, so this post is timely. Hardly culture, but it's FAB. And I agree with Illonga: Labyrinth. Probably the best movie with the most annoying protagonist of all time.
80s movies are great. I like Risky Business. Plus all the John Hughes movies... 16 Candles is probably my favourite haha but Weird Science and Ferris Bueller's are awesome as well :)
You definitely need to check out Better Off Dead!

I second Risky Business. I may hate Tom Cruise now, but back then he was young and cute. lol
Weird Science
The Heathers is a great movie.
My very favortie John Hughes movie is Some Kind of Wonderful. It's amazing!! Wargames is great too.

Beetlejuice
Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure
Just One Of the Guys

You can also check out fastrewind.com, it has about every 80's movie made on there.

Big
Overboard
You can't go wrong with John Hughes!
The Breakfast Club
Sixteen Candles
Lucas
Splash
Big
The Goonies

Ok so everyone is probably already recommending these or will but I'm just going to list my favorites:

The Breakfast Club
Dirty Dancing
Footloose
When Harry Met Sally
Sixteen Candles
Say Anything
Can't Buy Me Love
St Elmo's Fire
Ferris Beuller's Day Off

The Princess Bride

Ok so that's in no particular order. I just typed them as I thought of them. I'm sure I'm missing something but this should get you started. ;)
Mannequin
Beetlejuice
Ok, now I'm done! lol
I forgot to put Valley of the Dolls and the awesomely bad Beyond the Valley of the Dolls on the list. Aaaaaand The Rocky Horror Picture Show. And anything John Waters ever did -like Pink Flamingos and Cry Baby.
Oh yeah, Beetlejuice rocks.
Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Dirty Dancing (okay, it's really bad but still.) Yeah, all of the above, really.
Breakfast CLub all the way!
So the few I'd recommend have already been listed...I'm not much of a movie-goer myself :)
Love all these movies, but I'll add that if you haven't seen the '90s TV show My So-Called Life... you really, really should.
PUMP UP THE VOLUME!!!!!
I don't want to repeat, but I don't think these have been said yet: GREMLINS, TOP GUN, DEAD POET'S SOCIETY,
I have many, many that I could give you (I watch probably about as many movies as Taren!), but I'll limit myself to one.
Loverboy
Young Patrick Dempsey!
Long before I became a best-selling YA author, I wrote a book called "Pretty In Pink: The Story Of The 80s Teen Movie". It features chapters on John Hughes, Cameron Crowe,The Brat Pack, gross-out comedies, teen slashers, sports movies, girl movies, science-geek movies, teen romances and classic 80s soundtracks. I can't recommend it highly enough except to say that it's available for $0.01 from Amazon (though you still have to pay the four bucks postage).
How did none of us mention E.T.????
Agreeing with Alea - John Hughes all the way!

Hey! For some reason, this embedded comment form makes most people click twice before the comment is processed and published. It's not you - it's just that it's a new Blogger feature with kinks and all that. (But I adore it and don't wanna get rid of it!) I removed Captcha to make the process easier. You don't have to rewrite the comments twice; just click on SUBMIT twice and it should work. If not, email me. Thanks! -Steph
