You're kidding me
WTF
coldplay< JASON MRAZ (look at my awesome use of the caps lock key)

I liked Clocks, but not THAT MUCH, you know? It's not that I really love Jason Mraz or think the Grammys hold that much weight, but that I really dislike Coldplay.

Nobody doesn't like Coldplay. I refuse to believe it.

BUT I'M YOURS TOTALLY SHOULD HAVE WON THAT AWARD. THAT PISSED ME OFF. A LOT.

GAHHHH.

Sorry I actually really like their new cd. I haven't listened to Jason Mraz in years, and ironically I kind of think all of his stuff sounds the same. :/ Sorry it pissed you off though, anyone good win anything on the Grammys? I know a cd we worked on was up for a Grammy which was kind of cool!

I only heard a couple of song by Jason Mraz's but he's much better than Coldplay. D: I hated them the first time I heard their one song, The Speed of Sound? I forgot the title but it was their hit and I despised it.

Are you SERIOUS?

Yikes...hmmm
I have listened to coldplay, back in the day when I was all depressed and a bit moody. Now-a-days I try to avoid them, Jason is awesome and very worthy of the recognition, to bad that those in "charge" did not see that.

I'm not a big fan of either of them, to tell you the truth. Really, both of their stuff sounds the same, really. I think Chasing Pavements - Adele should of won by a LOT. Adele is amazing. Plus, the video for Chasing Pavements is incredible.

I hate Coldplay, too. THey are the poor man's U2 and since we were graced with the real thing as the opener...we don't need second best showing up.

I've never even heard any Coldplay songs. The only thing I know about them is that one of the guys has kids with Gwyneth Paltrow. Although I also only have 2 from Jason Mraz on my ipod. But really, Steph, this is where the obsession needs to end. This can't be healthy. I mean, Jason is for you like the middle Jonas brother is for millions of tweens.

Luckily, no one really respects the Grammy. Not the way people respect the Oscar, anyway.

I love Coldplay!!! :)

But if it's any comfort, these award systems rarely get it right. ;)

"I'm Yours" shouldn't have even been in the Grammys because technically it's not from this year. It shouldn't have even been considered.

And even as it was, Coldplay definitely deserved all the awards they got, because they are musical geniuses. Have you even listened to all of their cds? Not a one sounds the same. Each album has the same feel, and cohesiveness that every album or even short story collection needs. It doesn't mean they all sound the same. Because they don't. "I'm Yours" is a good song, and Jason Mraz is a good singer, but Coldplay had every right to that award.

And if it means anything, which it probably doesn't to you, all of Jason Mraz's songs sound the same to me as any other "island rhythm" (I can't figure out what exactly I want to call his genre/style and am too tired to bother looking it up) pop music out there. He's a young Jack Johnson in my mind, and doesn't do the rhythmic flow as well as Jack Johnson. Listen to the beat of Coldplay's music (and NOT "Speed of Sound" or "Viva la Vida" or "Violet Hill". Something that isn't extremely popular) and the way they put words to it and tell me they aren't artistically gifted. I understand that some people think "Viva la Vida" isn't all that special. In fact, it's not even the best song on the album, by far, but it does deserve to win over "I'm Yours"

Consider the fact, for once, that your opinion of the few songs you know by an artist doesn't mandate whether they are good or not. And if you have listened to ALL of Coldplay's music and still hate them, then by all means, continue on disliking one of the best bands to come about in the last ten years. It's fine, because it's your opinion.

*each song on an album has the same feel and cohesiveness

Heather - Being that I'm extremely into music, I have listened to a lot of Coldplay (not ALL of it because frankly, if I don't like something, why waste my time?) but enough of it to make an informed decision. It's just an opinion. Just like I don't agree with your assessment of Jason Mraz, you don't have to agree with me about Coldplay.

And actually, I prefer Jason to Jack. :)

*Heather*, are you sure you're not Gwyneth Paltrow?

mzink said...

Seriously? I LOVE Coldplay and so does my seventeen-year-old son. I'm Yours is a good song, but it's not very complicated or interesting musically... do ya think? Viva La Vida is such a unique, ground-breaking album. It was a worldwide bestseller within days of it's release...

Just sayin!

*dodges tomatoes, bananas, and other overripe food being thrown by the masses*

What I want to know is how come some of the more obscure but amazing bands don't ever get nominated? Like Brand New? Or Sick Puppies?

Alea said...

Does Brand New have a new cd? I think the newest one I have is from 2006? I need to look into this!

*Heather* said...

mzink, I totally agree with you about the less popular but equally amazing (if not better) artists. There are so many of them that at least deserve recognition.

Steph, I did say that if you had listened to a lot of Coldplay then you were entitled to your opinion. We can just agree to disagree on this matter. (And on any other matters to come) But, just as you have the right to voice yours, so do I.

I don't know from Jason Mraz (although I think I'll check him out now!), but Coldplay deserves all the love they get. I used to be a U2 FANATIC, and I could barely stomach watching them open the show this year. They blew. I don't think Coldplay is the poor man's U2...I think they actually out-sing and out-play U2 at this point.

Love all the impassioned music opinions on here!

Maya Ganesan said...

I don't know. Coldplay ranks a little higher than Jason Mraz on my list.

YA Book Realm said...

Eee not a big fan of Jason Marz (hot YESss, songs nahh). And I didn't help that his song was sooo played out on the radio station I listen to.

But I actually love Coldplay, yeah I'll admit sometimes Chris Martin's high notes get a tad annoying but overall Coldplay's songs are pretty damn amazing. So I'm pretty content with the results for once. =)

you're post was quite funny in a snarky kinda way... even though I do enjoy coldplay even if it is perhaps, maybe, a bit... canned.
