Which Begs The Question ...

Was just chatting with Alea and realized I wasn't the only one who thought this...

So, you should all know the cover above by now. Next Dessen book, out in June '09. Nifty huh? I think so. I can hardly wait!

Now, for the commentary on said cover.... It's a definite step up from Lock & Key. That one was rather monotone and boring (but I loved the book). HOWEVER, this book is screaming RETRO to me. The bike. The dress.

I don't know.

So, the cover, to me, begs the question, Just when exactly is this book set?? Hmm.

While it screams retro (which I love) I don't know if that necessarily means it is set in a different decade. I could be wrong though. I just thought the retro thing was a fresh take on the covers generally used.

I agree with Amee. It's a ridiculously cute cover, but it's probably set in the present like all Sarah's other books.

Oh no, I know it'll be set in nowadays. Probably. But the cover still screams retro to me. >.<

When I first saw the cover it didn't scream retro to me and it still doesn't. But I guess I see where your coming from. But this has got to be the best cover yet for her books I think. It's gorgeous, flirty and cute. I'm in love with it.

I love it all, the only thing that doesn't say contemporary is that boy's outfit. That is not working for me. It also sort of reminds me of the sweetness and innocence of A Walk to Remember. Couldn't this totally pass for A Walk to Remember cover?

I actually didn't think retro when I saw it first, but now that you mention it, it does seem retro. My main thought was "OMG SO CUTE!".

I also think the boy, despite not being able to see his face, seems very hot, lol.

That is the cutest cover. :)

I think it's the fact that his shirt is white and it sort of looks like an undershirt! They should have gone with a nice soft pastel color instead!

I also like it very much. But it looks retro :P

It's kind of funny how giant her name is on her covers. I'm waiting for the day they take it sideways, that will get it even bigger!

PS I'm totally imagining the guy on the cover as some sort of little greaser pledge. Ahh I love Grease!

It totally could be the cover for A Walk to Remember like Alea said.

The cover may seem a bit retro, but don't all of Sarah Dessen's books seem even the slightest bit retro? Especially the cover for Lock and Key. I mean, they are all pretty amazing (the ones I've read, at least, besides Someone Like You, which I wasn't a big fan of), but doesn't anyone else feel like they are all set in the nineties? I mean, I know the technology is up to date, as is the dialogue, but all of them give me the feel of something from the nineties. Not a negative thing, by any means, but something that bugs me a bit, and only because I'm not sure. It's a nice aspect, and I could read something and instantly know it was hers, and she has a great voice, but it's definitely nineties. Right?

Or am I way off base?
