Which Book Should I Buy?

I got a book gift card for my upcoming birthday from a very, very awesome friend of mine today! Naturally, my next stop was my wishlist (which is cornering in at $1000, I am not kidding) and see what I could get for the exact amount. As it turns out, I have a lot of options and I'd love to have my blog readers help me pick the book! :)

Behold:

AdiĆ³s to My Old Life by Caridad Ferrer

The Boyfriend List by E. Lockhart

I Heart You, You Haunt Me by Lisa Schroeder

The Key to The Golden Firebird by Maureen Johnson

Sold by Patricia McCormick

Such A Pretty Girl by Laura Wiess

Feel free to suggest stuff as well! I'm always on the lookout for the next Author Week inspiration :) Make sure it's out in paperback, though, cos I can't afford hardback. (If I could, dude, this post wouldn't even be happening because either Madapple, The Adoration of Jenna Fox, or The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks, my top top top choices, would already be purchased. ;D)

Ah, the age old question, "what book do I buy?"

I wish I could help but I haven't read any of them. I have The Key to the Golden Firebird and The Boyfriend List but haven't got a chance to read them yet.

I think the rest all sound good, though. Gosh, I'm no help at all. Sorry!

Hahahahhahaha this doesn't help me much, you! Come on, I need some solid suggestions :P Thanks though -- the gift card was a lovely gift to begin with. :)

I've read Books 2-4, and they're amazing. Book 6 is one I've been wanting to get, but personally costs way too much for the amount of pages ($12.00 for a teen paperback that's just 215ish pages? No thanks.)

So any of those choices would be good. If you get Book 6, then let me know how it is, so I can decide if I should get it or not.

You're welcome!

If only I could read superfast, I would read those two real quick and tell you if they were good. :P

Thanks RR! :D I'm in love with the cover for Firebird, lol.

BC, you're right about that. It's the most expensive book out of the six, which is why I'm leaning away from it. I think the real competition is between Adios and Sold. Wish I could get them both :P

Ambeen, AHAHAHA I'd love to see that!

I've only read two of the books in your list. I'd recommend buying The Key to the Golden Firebird for sure.
Or the Boyfriend List because I want to read it....:D

I've read two of them -- I Heart You, You Heart me and Sold and both were really good. Sold is more serious, and I Heart You, You Heart Me is more fun, so whatever you're in the mood for. [:

hope.

I really liked The Key to the Golden Firebird and the Boyfriend List. It looks like thats what most people are suggesting so at least your narrowing it down to two lol. I really want to read I Heart You, You Haunt Me, i've heard that its pretty good.

=D

I've read I Heart You, You Haunt Me; The Boyfriend List; and the Key to The Golden Firebird. They were all really great books, but I liked The Boyfriend List the best- I wasn't that in love with the book-in-verse thing for the first. The author wasn't that great at breaking up the lines in the best places. I don't know if that would bother normal people, but it bugged me. And The Key to the Golden Firebird was really, really amazing, but I didn't like it quite as much as some of Maureen Johnson's other books. So if you've read all of her other paperbacks, then that's a good choice as well.

I've read and recommend I Heart You, You Haunt Me but I don't think I'd buy it before The Boyfriend List or The Key to the Golden Firebird (haven't read either, will read both soon, but they come VERY highly recommended by ^her. That girl up there....Caroline. Yeah, see her? She's read them. She likes them. There you go. Haven't read the others and the only one of them I've even heard of is Such a Pretty Girl which I want to read as well.

And I would suggest some other books, but the main one is part of a series and that would be mean since, obviously, you can only get one book. Ooh! I have a good one: any John Green book (Looking for Alaska or An Abundance of Katherines) if you haven't yet stepped into that realm of Nerdfighterly awesome.

=)

RR2, thanks!! :D

Elaina, thankies. Yup that's what most people suggested and I've already made my purchase! Woo hoo!

Caroline, that's so funny you should say that. I guess I'll have to check IHYYHM some other time (it wasn't the book I chose this time). I have another book-in-verse arriving at my house pretty soon that everyone says is totally PERFECT in its break down. (And no it's not a Sonya Sones novel. Never read those; never read in-verse, to be honest.) Thanks for your suggestions!

Heather, Caroline's recommendations moved some stuff up on my priorities list! I have one MJ book (Bemudez Triangle) on my TBR pile and another one (13 Little Blue Envelopes) coming along to me. I guess I'll read those two BEFORE jumping at any others. Though Devilish sounds quite nice, lol. And WOW wouldn't you know it, I'm reading Looking for Alaska right now! I probably won't review it right away because I really like it so far and wanna get Katherines before putting anything up on the site. But yeah, I am LOVING John Green and the Needfighterly awesomeness. :)

What was the book you were gonna rec me? RECOMMEND AWAY! I love adding stuff to my wishlist so that whenever I go book shopping I have all sorts of books to fit my mood that day. Even if it's a series, shoot!

Well, I would be offended and say you should get FRENEMIES, but my assumption is you didn't have that on the list because you know I'm already sending it to you! (Shyeah.) Now if only I'd known I should have sent a birthday card, too. When is the big day, and is it totally inappropriate to ask the number? Oh, and finally...I haven't read any of these but I think I'd go with Maureen Johnson first. (Closely followed by I Heart You, the Boyfriend List, and Adios).

Have you read What I Was or How I Live Now by Meg Rosoff?

My birthday is coming up too and I got Confessions of a Triple Shot Betty in the mail yesterday (Jody is FAST)! So cool, thanks again. Can't wait to start!!

Just FYI and IMO, Such a Pretty Girl is totally worth the price. I checked it out from the library first because of that, but had to go out immediately and buy it. It's just that good.

I also second the How I Live Now recommendation if you haven't read it yet. That book blew my socks off.

I have to say I find it really funny that my sister and I both picked the same 2 books seeing how generally we have fairly different tastes ;)

I love how Heather says, 'that girl up there..... Caroline' like she doesn't really know who I am.
That's nice, buddy. <3 you to.
Steph, which book did you decide on?

Caroline said...

Ooh! I shall third How I Live Now. I read it for a multi-genre thing I had to do for english last year, because my topic was eating disorders. It wasn't that helpful in the paper, because it wasn't really about eating disorders. But it was REALLY amazing, in a serious-haunting-gorgeous sort of way! I loved it.
Anyway. Had to throw that in. I'll stop commenting now. :D

YOU GUYS!! Now you're just ADDING stuff to my wishlist! Not cool! If anyone needs a performer in exchange for petty cash, I'm totally your girl because I just wanna chomp my wishlist up...Anyway, lol.

Alexa -- emailed ya :P And yup precisely why I'm not getting Frenemies with this gift card. Otherwise, you totally know I would :)

Lenore -- yay! Yes, Jody Gehrman is QUITE fast! She's also infinitely awesome (big Jody hearts to you, Jody, if you're reading this!) for donating a copy for the contest in the first place. Hope you enjoy it and let me know what you think!! To answer your questions, no, I never read either of those books but one of 'em is a Printz award-book, which means it's high up on my wishlist. :) Thanks!

Angiegrl, thanks! Yeah I've heard some great stuff about SAPG, which is why it's my next purchase, soon as I get more money. (That, Adios, and a Meg Rosoff book!) :D

RR, hahaha I noticed that too! Thanks so much for the suggestions :D

Caroline, the book I ended up picking is a mystery... muahaha. No no, I'll probably announce it on my next post. No one actually recommended it though. I just had to have it. There wasn't ever any doubt, tbh, I just needed a little push and the excerpt I read last night gave me just that. Thanks for the suggestions, and Meg Rosoff = next purchase baby!

Thanks everyone!

Steph
